Loving Summer

We had several sunny and beautiful days here!  I am learning that the term "warm" is relative.  It felt very warm to us over the last few days and we have tans to prove it, but I'm pretty sure the actual temperature only made it into the mid 70's!  It felt wonderful and we tried to stay outside for every minute of it (with the exception of nap time for Mariah!).  Adam came home from his patrol and bought the kids a fun surprise on his trip, a sprinkler!

Cooper had a blast with the sprinkler, but Mariah was not so sure about it.  It took some coaxing to get her to try it out and she informed us it was cold and decided she preferred to sit on the warm rocks with Dad.

On another day we decided to test the boat that Cooper and Grammie made a few weeks ago!  We headed down to Mineral Creek and found that it worked!  Cooper floated it down a calmer section of the creek and had fun following it down stream.

Eventually Cooper decided to test the boat in the rapids on the other side!

Rain finally came after 3 days of sunshine, but it was time to stay indoors and get some cleaning done.  The good thing about living somewhere that the winters are extreme and sunny days are in short supply is that we are really learning to get out and take advantage of the warmth and the sun.  It truly feels like a blessing when we wake up and pull the curtains to find a sunny, cloudless day in Valdez!

Oh my, how things have changed!  Here are some pictures of the kids playing in the back yard last July and how they play this July!  What a difference a year makes!

Hunters

The kids and I headed back toward the hatchery to see if we could spot the mother bear and 4 cubs we had heard about around town and got such a pleasant surprise!  They were there getting their fill of the pink salmon.  There were also a lot of bald eagles that were there for a easy meal too.  It is amazing that we have come by this spot twice and have seen so many different hunters that rely on the salmon; sea lions, otters, seals, seagulls, bears and bald eagles!  Living in Alaska is amazing!

This is the only picture I got where you can actually see all four cubs.  There is one to the left and three to the right.

Gone Fish'n

Julia, Ed, Bob and I went on an awesome fishing trip earlier this week!  We came away with some great fishing stories:)  I would recommend going out with Karl and Barb Amundsen to anyone!  They were great and put us right on the fish! Enjoy the pictures!

The small boat harbor was a little clogged up, but somehow Karl got the boat through.
